Henry Stewart Webinar – Connects content from the DAM, PIM, Cloud and Stock storage to using, directly in the Adobe CC desktop application

On August 26th, it was time again, and the Henry Stewart event was invited to a webinar with CI HUB. More than 200 people from 21 countries and more than 190 companies followed the invitation. Not all of them could be there live, here is the recording of the webinar and the questions and answers after the event to read up.

Q&A from HSE Webinar 26. August 2020

Q: How does the connector work between systems i.e., getting files from dropbox and uploading a final asset to a dam system like webdam?
A: CI HUB can work between the different Systems. So you can download an asset from your DAM and then upload the final work in your Dropbox for Sharing. If the suer you’re share the asset with has all access to the DAM, you can only share the InDesign and CI HUB will relink to the Images in the DAM. So you sell lots of transfers.

Q: Does plugin Connections support Canto Cumulus DAM?
A: No

Q: The connection to Getty is nice to see, but how would that work in the case of a DAM system? Can you, for example, search for custom metadata and show them, or does that functionality depend on the integration with the certain DAM system?
A: No, all connected system can use our similarity search. The Search is based not on Keywords but on the real Image. So we can use ANY image from your open InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator or Video files from Premiere (and sure all Office Products) to finde similar Images in Getty, Shutterstock, Adobe etc.

Q: If you have rights to an asset that have expired, can the system alert you so that you can find a replacement or renew to stay in compliance?
A: If the System you connect to is providing this info via the API, then we can use this information within the CI HUB Connector to alert you. But it deepens if your system is providing it.

Q: This is a monthly subscription-based product?
A: Yes it is. and a very simple one: You pay 19€ per User and month (plus taxes) and you can use it in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere and InCopy. Or 9,50 € for Word, Excel and Powerpoint. And you can connect to al available Systems if you have an account there without any additional cost from CI HUB. (There may be cost from these Systems)

Q: If you have linked assets across multiple sources, and want to distribute as native file… would User need to package and store assets locally and the distribute, or would you just share the native file and all assets and their links remain intact? (If given permissions to recipient?). In short. How to distribute native documents with links in the most efficient manner?
A: Not really. You can use user “packages, “but CI HUB can identify assets from different sources and relink to them. But the User with whom you share, needs access to the system. But that’s normal. Because we can can finde assets by Filename, Asset ID, MD5 Hash and documentID/InstanceID we finde the used assets if the User has access to a source.

Q: Ok cool. Inclusive of adobe cc files, not just libraries?
A: Yes we are working to do more and better integrations within the Adobe World. First is the integration of CC Library.

Q: Are those options inherent to the cloudinary plugin? Or something that needs configuring within CI HUB?
A: There is NO configuration in the CI HUB Connector needed. Is you have “named transitions “in your Cloudinary system, you can use them. They are amazingly powerful, and you can do amazing things, especially in the Microsoft products.

Q: Can you show all the available services again?
A: Shure, go to our website and click on “adapters “. You can do this each week and find something new 🙂
Also, if you have the CI HUB Connector installed, there is an InApp Messaging system informing you about any news.

Q: Does the linking rely upon those storage services having desktop sync?
A: No… CI HUB Connector works without any other software needed. We sent need a “Smart-sync “os similar, we always access the original asset location, as we want to support all functions of a system and not the filesystem features.

Q: Can you edit metadata through this as well?
A: Yes, if the API of the connected System supports it and if the vendor has decided to let us implement it.

Q: Picture usage rights. Stock suppliers sometimes apply usage rights, e.g., the picture can be used for a catalog, but not for video. Can the CI Hub handle such rights?
A: Unfortunately, this is a complex question. But we are working on implementing something based on the IPTC Data, but we don’t expect this before 2021.

Q: Great solution Guys! Is this all installed locally, and is there anything required on the vendor site?
A: Thanks a lot. We work hard to deliver the best possible solution, so please give us more feedback. CI HUB Connector is installed locally. From the vendor, there is typically no additional requirement needed. But this defense on the system. Maybe you need a specific account setting (Premium Access). Please ask your vendor or see the Requirements section on our Adapter Pages https://www.ci-hub.com/adapter

Q: Do all freelance /agency collaborators need to have the plugin and connected source folders to get the auto-linking, even if personal Dropbox etc. are used?
A: If you want to use the benefits and functions of CI HUB, you need to have one.

Q: Do you recommend versioning logo’s in different colors for access within one linked asset, versus having different files for each color, (ex. logo_blk, logo_color, Logo_wht )
A: We don’t think that there is a universal answer to this. It depends on how your system is handling Versions and Variations. We have seen so many different approaches you need to give us more info to answer that better. In general, if your system supports Versions, then I like having different colors Versions a lot because it is very powerful. BUT it has some pitfalls. So send more details to support@ci-hub.com, and we can discuss it.

Q: Great and informative presentation. Thanks!
A: Thanks a lot, this is why we have fun every day.
